Wirelessly Enabled Meshed Sensor Grid

Description:
To provide a capability to obtain perimeter security via IP enabled meshed sensors of all types for (1) military tactically deployed personnel (i.e. overseas Forward Operating Base (FOB)); or (2) for domestic early responder, law enforcement, and medical response personnel to secure their operating area in a Katrina-like disaster. Features should include the capabilities listed in (1) and/or (2) above as well as those listed below.

  • Throwaway per-unit cost and design
  • Seen and unseen sensors (micro, mini, larger)
  • All weather hardened (cold, hot, humid, wet, sandy areas)
  • Multi-sensor (IR, audio, seismic, acoustic, motion, etc.)
  • IP enabled reachback to the Internet for remote management and monitoring
  • Zigbee or Ultra Wideband sensor-to-sensor grid enabled
  • Able to recycle cell phones as standalone sensors
  • Easy to add new sensors to the grid (interoperability)
  • Leverage Dr. Singh's Twiddlenet concept for cellular technology

Estimated investment is $250,000 for equipment, $250,000 for NPS faculty labor.
