Lightweight, Rapidly-Deployable Non-Fossil-Fuel Alternative Power Sources for Comms Flyaway Kits
Thesis Topic:
Lightweight, Rapidly-Deployable Non-Fossil-Fuel Alternative Power Sources for Comms Flyaway Kits
Description:
Build power plants to be used in disasters that are airline luggage checkable.
The HFN Center has numerous 6 watt rollable and 26 watt foldable solar panel units from PowerFilm. We also have the gigantic PowerFilm Balance of Systems on a beta test basis as part of a contract they have with the Army.
We also have two sets of micro-wind turbine units with charge controllers that are ready for testing and evaluation. By August 2009 we hope to have web-enabled monitoring and measuring equipment for both the solar and wind units.
Requirements:
- Would be deployable on ships at sea, or transported/delivered to shore from ships at sea
- Non fossil fuel options (solar, wind, hand/foot crank, x-fuel cell, thermal, etc.)
- Has ability to use multiple energy types simultaneously
See:
www.powerfilmsolar.com (look at the military/emergency product lines)

The concept is to build hybrid energy flyaway kit options with multiple means of power generation.

- An NPS MBA student project that takes the form of an Excel spreadsheet to compute power needs, a world solar map, appliance power ratings, and a solar power cost index (Operation Solar Eagle Cost Model).
- A Comms NGOs (DRASTIC) Spreadsheet app that is a general power budget calculator.
